The coalition is exploring ways to preserve vistas with land-use regulations and zoning, which ultimately would have to be passed by local city and county officials. The group also has received information about the possibility of reviving some form of this year’s failed Scenic Vistas Act, which was aimed at controlling mountaintop removal mining in Tennessee.
Jimmy Hudson of Hudson Cos., owner of a Stringers Ridge site where developers recently scrapped a plan to cap the ridge top and build 500 condominiums and townhouses, said it would be difficult to pass legislation that would cover every project, every site and every development.
