Jason usually I delete ignorant comments like yours. It's the same old song and dance. I don't think you pro-mountaintop removal folks could come up with an original idea if your life or livelihood depended on it.

I think you are cowards, plain and simple... too afraid and/or too stupid to learn a new trade.

Bring an argument or keep your ass on the porch with all the other lap dogs.

Crystal, I honestly believe your the only person that has posted a comment that is true and real life. People need to face it coal does power the U.S, it also has to be mined. And it's also bad that people care more about mountains than peoples jobs and livelihood. Anti coal mining people would change their attitude quick if they where supporting a family by coal mining. My family has been in the coal industry for 4 generations, 2 of which has been surface mining sorry there are some people in Appalachia that want to make a good living instead of making minimum wage or being a lazy ass that lives off the government. And yes coal keeps the light on! God bless all coal miners an their jobs.

Hi Beth, when I wrote this post I never really considered that folks might not know what a "slicky slide" was. It is what we called a piece of playground equipment. It was the metal slide... climb the ladder, sit on your butt and slide to the bottom. I remember that metal slide getting pretty hot in the sun.

I look up to those folks from the 60's. They fought a battle against strip mining and eventually won. MTR is much much worse on so many different levels.

I grew up in southern WV so I certainly know what a "slicky slide" is. Now I live in Texas and no one will believe me when I tell them that's what we called playground equipment. Could you please back me up on your blog by confirming the definition of a "slicky slide".

BTW, I too oppose MTR. I remember my grandfather bemoaning highwall strip mining in the 1960s. Just when we had made progress in reclaiming those eyesores, along comes mining method that is even worse! More destructive of more land!

I agree that mountain top removal needs to be stopped because it does cause a lot of damage. Companies should be required to go underground to get the coal versus blasting mountains apart.

A clean coal, don't think so. A coal is a coal and it not only pollution to the environment but also poisonous to the human health.

Just because of the fast changes that's happening in our economy, nature is being affected. We should always bear in mind that changes are good, as long as it doesnt affect or destroy the nature. We should take care of nature.
