Coal Industry Boycotts Tennessee

I’ve been reading lately where the new coal industry group, citizens for coal, have boycotted Tenn. because of Senator Lamar’s support for the Appalachia Restoration Act.
The first thing that came to mind when I originally read the story… that’s too funny. The latest reports indicate somewhere in the neighborhood of 5000 workers have joined the boycott. Probably 4980, or so, wouldn’t be going to Tenn. anyway. This is another example of the slaves thinking their jobs is the only thing that should matter to anybody. I wonder what they would do if the Senator was from say Rhode Island? Cancel their many vacations there? Or what about Maryland? Does nobody vacation in Maryland?
Instead of wasting time in an attempt to please the coal industry, don’t you people think your time could be better served in Charleston demanding a diversified economy? I can say with certainty you will not find a diversified economy with your entire head stuck up the coal industry’s ass. But hey as long as there is at least one job and you have it, that’s all that matters.
What I think you really should do is boycott the United States, denounce your citizenship, and move back to North Korea where you belong.

In West Virginia, mountaintop removal was kept a big secret in part by the lack of willingness to cover anything detrimental to the coal industry by local media or news networks. This is as close to being an enabler as you can get. The media helped to create the tense atmosphere we find ourselves in today.
enabler: one who enables another to persist in self-destructive behavior by providing excuses or by making it possible to avoid the consequences of such behavior.
In my opinion, there is not a single news network in West Virginia with the right to say anything to either side in this battle. You’ve been quiet this long.
Most articles about mountaintop removal printed in the local papers is accompanied by a fact, 50% of the electricity generated in the US comes from coal. Somebody please ask these idiots how much of that comes from mountaintop removal coal mining. Let’s at least connect the correct facts to the correct topic. They want to bring coal into an argument about mountaintop removal which, if I’m not badly mistaken, supplies only a small percentage of coal for power generation. Possibly small enough to replace with renewable energy?
The article this post is originally about, since we seem to be hung up on numbers, instead of a story just talking about 5000 miners boycotting Tenn., why not find out how many of those same miners went to Tenn. for vacation last year? Prove those 5000 miners were going to vacation in Tenn. this year. Prove that none of them go. You can’t do it can you? So that makes your story what… hearsay?
You are enablers helping the coal industry spread threats.

Notice:
If mountaintop removal coal mining is not left alone we will boycott Tennessee and get as many of you to do the same as we can. Actually making or canceling plans to Tennessee is optional for this boycott we just need a name so we can turn it into a number thus inflating our headlines which will result in the appearance of a worthwhile effort. Trust us, the local media will love it.
BTW – If you want to keep your job you better join our boycott otherwise we are very likely to be living in a world where fire rains from the heavens causing us to have to move to the Florida panhandle, build steel huts, eat whatever has been killed by the raining fire and pray to the Gods who have cursed us the next hurricane doesn’t wash us out to sea where the best that we could hope for is to drown before we are eaten alive by 40′ sharks capable of swallowing a coal truck in a single bite. To prevent this from possibly happening to you and your family, sign on the dotted line and… Have A Nice Day!!
Some folks are just so transparent, at times I actually feel sorry for them… for a minute or two.
I feel only disgust for the local media.
Our remnants of wilderness will yield bigger values to the nation’s character and health than they will to its pocketbook, and to destroy them will be to admit that the latter are the only values that interest us. – Aldo Leopold

Denny – great post! Don’t you think the Volunteer State thumbed their nose at the coal industry? Tennessee has so many tourists that there would hardly be any effect if every miner in the country boycotted. Give me a break. They think they are SOOOOOOOO big and mighty. Hear me roar? Watch me laugh!

Denny, love it. What a load of crap this “boycott” is. We are delighted to have less than .0001% of the drunk rednecks stay home from going to Gatlinburg, this year, we won’t even notice they are gone. Maybe while these angry louts are sitting up there fuming about hippies or whatever pile of garbage that they have been fed by their bosses, they will learn some good manners and quit busting in on private parties like the one Larry held. How much do you wanna bet the big fat ink stained slob from the video is one of the guys “boycottin’ Tennessee”? lolololol
