America’s Power and the Clean Coal Carolers

The clean coal lobby has outdone themselves this time. I would have to say it is probably one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen – lumps of coal singing clean coal Christmas carols. New classics such as Frosty The Coalman, Deck The Halls (with Clean Coal), and my favorite Clean Coal Night. This commercial gives new meaning to the Friends of Coal. They really do consider themselves friends of coal – literally.
Edit – The clean coal carolers have been removed from their website.

Although I want you to see the little not-so-cute and cuddly lumps of coal singing their brand of Christmas carols to you, I simply could not bring myself to link to them so you will have to copy and paste the link.
Sometimes to fight this battle all you have to do is shutup and let the industry open it’s mouth and carefully insert it’s own foot. I would have to make a guess and say the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) had a little bit of money left from their coal lobbying during the elections. I think I could have found a better use for it.
Thankfully there is another new coalition out there spreading the truth about clean coal.
Clean coal? Get real.
Our remnants of wilderness will yield bigger values to the nation’s character and health than they will to its pocketbook, and to destroy them will be to admit that the latter are the only values that interest us. – Aldo Leopold

Denny,
Have you seen the new commercial with the guy with a hard hat asking everyone if they want to see clean coal? He opens a door and it’s a barron outside seen. At the end there is a slogan “Reality, there’s no such thing as clean coal”

As the price of oil rises, the coal industry is planning to replace oil by turning coal into liquid fuels and into feed stocks for the chemical industry. Of course they are also planning to burn ever-more coal to produce electricity. If these plans materialize, green chemistry and renewable solar energy both will be sidelined for the rest of this century.
sorry but…coal for electricity…is a ‘human development error’ made long ago…when knowledge limited, infrastructure lacking while need for energy escalating…so we went for it as thought it a workable solution…

The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity defines it as “any technology to reduce pollutants associated with the burning of coal that was not in widespread use” prior to 1990 regulations. By that definition, the group can call any newer coal-based power plant clean.
“Clean Coal” also refers to coal burning power plants that capture and store the excess, preventing it from contributing to climate change.
